The Chaz Interviews - July, 2003
by Chaz and the MP3.com artists

It was the summer of 2003 and MP3.com's active message board community was heating up as well -- with flame wars. Along came Chaz Fanaro, looking to cut through the negative noise. He began to interview many of the musical artists who pitched a tent on the popular indie music forum. Others pitched in with questions of their own. July of 2003 could have turned ugly, but thanks to the interviews blanketing the forum, it became a home for insight and mutual respect. The forums were wiped clean by Vivendi in December, 2003. The interviews live on.

Your band has nine musicians, what kind of input to the music do the members contribute?

boomswinger
The 9 musicians stated on my site are more than one form of band. The three current songs that are up are from the Quaking House. In this outfit Vince, Rob and me have all written songs. Many of the Quaking House songs are collaborations between the three of us. For instance Vince might come up with a tune and I'll go away and write words. That kind of thing. With the other musicians sometimes I sing and play on their compositions.

How did you first become interested in music?

boomswinger
My father was a radio communications engineer and we had that great piece of funiture the Radiogram. As a small child I listened to yellow and pink coloured 45s of popular and less well know nursery rhymes. I guess I was inspired by wonderful hits on 78s such as Champian the Wonder Horse, River of No Return and Red Sails in the Sunset. My first performance as a singer was in Church. I think I was abut 4. I sang Little Donkey, the Gracy Fields version. I took up the piano when I was 6 and played Russion Dance duets with my older sister.

HI, when I was just 17 going on 18 I was really a waitress in the Lexington Hambuger restaurant in Cardiff. All the musos hung out there. I even served Elvis Costello and Lulu before they played in the Top Rank!! I met Moira there who was looking for backing vocalsists and I soon became a Mousette with Moira and the Mice.
