The Chaz Interviews - July, 2003
by Chaz and the MP3.com artists

It was the summer of 2003 and MP3.com's active message board community was heating up as well -- with flame wars. Along came Chaz Fanaro, looking to cut through the negative noise. He began to interview many of the musical artists who pitched a tent on the popular indie music forum. Others pitched in with questions of their own. July of 2003 could have turned ugly, but thanks to the interviews blanketing the forum, it became a home for insight and mutual respect. The forums were wiped clean by Vivendi in December, 2003. The interviews live on.

Eric, didn't you have much more music on your page?

Infamous Eric
Yes, Chaz I did, but when the gold/platinum memberships came about, I elected to stay with the basic package and use the money in a more efficient way.

I setup my own domain. The cost is comparable but the possibilities are endless. I'm still working on the page, I have little more than streaming music from there right now, but you can also vote for your favorite tune, or post in the forum.
I'm also working on another site called "The Cybertarium", which I intend to turn into a kind of Artist promo page. The idea is to use the site as a hub to link to artists of all types. It's also very new, and I'm still testing code. Eventually I'd like to build it into an OMD type site.

Chaz the Spaz
That's cool Eric, you've been busy, good luck with code and the site.

Terry Shea
Why are you "infamous"?

Infamous Eric
The infamous name actually came about because, I probably have very little chance to become famous, so I figured it would probably be easier to become infamous.
Hence the names Project Infamy, and Infamous Eric...

Kim Riemer
Howdy Eric.
Back in your giging days, what was your most memorable gig?
Any Spinal Tap moments?

Terry Shea
Well, I think your music is so much better than almost anyone who is "famous".

Infamous Eric
Mostly, when I was playing gigs, it was backyard parties. I played a few clubs, but only a few. In those days, I was much more serious about where my next beer and next line of crystal was coming from, as opposed to my next gig. But I do remember choking the guitar played when he lost his place in the song. Once we play this club and the drummer jokingly had invited his family to come watch. ( We never thought they would) Well the lights on the stage were bright so we couldn't see who was in the crowd. We'd finish a song and we'd get loud cheering and clapping. We thought we had some real fans, until the lights turned off and we saw half the drummers extended family in the bar area.
I didn't know grandma was a headbanger...
Walking off the stage, it was difficult to hold your head up too high, just a little embarassing...

Infamous Eric
Thanx Terry, I appreciate that !!!
and thank you Chaz, for starting this thread !

ERIC is a GREAT GUY !!!!!!! few know how truly INFAMOUS he is ......
Sorry to inform on you Eric.....

Infamous Eric
How dare you people talk nice about me in front of my back !

Rabuck
I have noticed that nobody is asking you many questions.
Do you take that as people are a bit spooked by you and don't want to know any more about you than they already do?
...and If so how does that make you feel?
...and if not, can I borrow twenty dollars?

Infamous Eric
Actually Rob, no, I look at it more like this...
I've never been the frontman, I've always been the one in the background, making things work, thats where I'm most comfortable. So it doesn't bother me, I prefer to be left alone to do my own thing anyway...
Where do I send the $20 ?

Ranchthe
QUESTION: Eric, are you considered 'Infamous' because you write killer music?

Infamous Eric
Damn......
Now I gotta send $ 20.00 to Thomas too !
Thanx Tom

Ranchthe
Naw, dude you got thousands of dollars of credit that I owe you!! Keep up the great work!!

Netjam
Eric is one very special dude in my book.
I hope he stays himself for many years to come

Chaz the Spaz
How did you first become interested in music?

Infamous Eric
My parents were "flower children" during the 60's, they were very involved in music and partying while I was very young. My dad was co-owner of a recording studio when I was a baby, he said I used to sleep on the monitors. So, really I've been surrounded by music all my life.

gray martin
I love your guitar playing; it kicks ass. I'm wondering if you ever had any proper training or if you're self-taught?

Infamous Eric
Thanx Gray
Self taught, I'm actually a bass player pretending to be a guitarist.
I started playing drums as a kid, then took up guitar at 13, and switched to bass by 16. So all the "gigs" I did when I was playing, were as a bass player. I do also play a little keyboards, (a very little).
And I don't read music.

Chaz the Spaz
What are your goals and what do you have planned for your music?

Infamous Eric
Actually Chaz, my goals are more oriented toward business, than music. (Not the music business).
I really hadn't thought about any plans for my music. Though I wouldn't mind some work in the entertainment field, I'd really like a chance at movie soundtracks. I think my music is well suited for the horror/suspense/action/comedy genres.

Chaz the Spaz
Practice makes perfect, do you practice?

Infamous Eric
I practice regularly...
Though I'm somewhat irregular, myself.
