The Chaz Interviews - July, 2003
by Chaz and the MP3.com artists

It was the summer of 2003 and MP3.com's active message board community was heating up as well -- with flame wars. Along came Chaz Fanaro, looking to cut through the negative noise. He began to interview many of the musical artists who pitched a tent on the popular indie music forum. Others pitched in with questions of their own. July of 2003 could have turned ugly, but thanks to the interviews blanketing the forum, it became a home for insight and mutual respect. The forums were wiped clean by Vivendi in December, 2003. The interviews live on.

Artist History
Prevoyance itself, as a project, began in 1997. I have been playing piano and experimenting with electronic sounds since the early eighties, mixing classical and electronic, although lack of project funding has meant a slow collection of recording gear. My goal has always been to produce emotive fantasy soundscapes that evoke and create pictures guided by my visions and feelings. Most of what is on this Mp3 page is the result of works 1997 to the present day, and there are some Mediterranean and Pagan Greek influences. I have been inspired by trips to the city of Athens and Ephesus in Western Turkey. I expect to travel wider in the coming years, to inspire future visions in my music. Currently I am more of a studio artist. Playing live is great and I look forward to it, but at the end of the day itâ€

Chaz the Spaz
Your music sounds well structured. How do you plan your compositions?

prevoyance
Chaz..
Good question..
I always start with a strings part. Strings generate the atmosphere for a theme or vision that i can build on. I have to feel some emotion from it too, otherwise 9/10 it gets dumped and unfinished.

It appears that whats after this strangeness can not be copied or printed. What does this do -- â€

I really enjoy your music and had a hard time deciding which tune to put on the Interrogation Station. How do you get the string sounds?

prevoyance
Thanks for the station inclusion Chaz
Strings?.. Well, i currently use a Triton for the strings. It has a reasonable choice of effects on board. It would be nicer to have an Orchestra on the cheap, but indie budgets and all that..

Chaz the Spaz
How did you first become interested in music?

prevoyance
My first interest in music started at a very early age(not again). My Grandfather hand-crafted and made Violins. There was a large lounge in the house which was covered wall to wall with his violins and he would pick one off at random and play it for me on my visit.
A couple of years on i bought Space Oddity by Bowie and, with the aid of an old reel to reel, mike and a record player began recording home based radio, much to the annoyance of family.
Strings in Classical music was a first love, especially after watching 2001 A Space Odyssey, watching the initial space scene. Most music influences came from some of the 60s-70s big films.
Floyds Dark Side of The Moon and Jarre's Oxygene twisted me electronic later on. In 1983 I bought an amp with reverb (think it was a Vibrolux reverb?) and a Casio CT1000P. I then swiftly ditched the Casio and bought a Roland JX3-P an OSCar monosynth and a Korg Polysix. The Polysix had some nice strings on it which also kept the strings interest in music

Chaz the Spaz
What are your goals and what do you have planned for your music?

prevoyance
Good question Chaz..
Plans - Topping the charts would be great, but thats not the area I have most interest in. Film Soundtrack work is my favoured direction. Sending them out now..Demo's Demo's Demo's
Goals - To write the most beautiful songs I can be personally happy and moved with.

jaw knee
Prevoyance, I 'am a fan of your style and find a calming pleasure in your music.
Is all your music recorded/composed using the Triton?

prevoyance
Hi Jawknee ..Interesting question.
No, the Triton is a recent addition, but it has the strings i like currently. The onboard FX are easy to use and liven up the string and choral parts.
All previous sounds came from a Kawaii K1 and a Generalmusic SX2. The K1 has one nice swirling choral sound that is hard to emulate on the Korg.
Thanks for asking - going to pop you a question soon
